By 4x4 Through Southern Africa: Why Real Adventures Happen in Small Groups

18 October 2026 · 5 min read · Christian Köhler

The engine is off, the dust settles, and suddenly it is completely silent. Ahead of us red sand, a few acacias, on the horizon the silhouette of a mountain range. It is for moments like these that we travel by 4x4 through southern Africa.

Self-sufficient on the road

Our vehicles carry everything we need: water, diesel, supplies, roof tents. So we can stay overnight where others only drive through – under a starry sky like you hardly know it in Europe anymore. We drive on tracks and trails away from the main routes, always with respect for nature and wildlife.

Why the small group matters

With 6 to 10 people we stay mobile. We can take a spontaneous detour, stay an extra day or accept an invitation to a village. Everyone lends a hand – changing tyres, at the campfire, cooking. Fellow travellers become a team.

Adventure doesn't come from itinerary items, but from room for the unexpected.

What you should bring

Off-road experience is not necessary. More important are curiosity, team spirit and a willingness to give up some comfort. We discuss everything else in detail before the trip.
